Top 5 Cosplayers Unordered List: My Best of the Best

The Philippine cosplay scenario is undoubtedly one of the most competitive cosplay communities in the world, albeit the cult following. Many cosplayers and cosplay enthusiasts have named dozens of cosplayers as their own king and queen of cosplay; they created multitudes of top fives, top tens, and even top twenties lists of the best Philippine cosplayer - most of which consist of cute little girls in risque poses and ultra-mini skirts. But still, the million dollar question still looms - who really is the best cosplayer out there? Hey, don't look at me. I'm not here to tell you who's queen, who's king, and who's the freakin' joker. I'm just going to add another opinionated top-something list of the most talented Filipino cosplayers. See if we agree. Enjoy!

Guy Singson

If there's a course in costume-making Guy Singson would have a PhD. A collector of mecha figures since he was a child, Guy Singson specializes in creating extremely detailed and superbly-awesome armors. This guy (pun intended) really knows his stuff. Each of his creations are masterpieces in their own right. I've spent almost an hour just typing this paragraph - 90% of which was spent browsing his deviant art account. With a long list of awards under his utility belt, Guy Singson is no doubt one of the best cosplayers locally and internationally.

Alodia Gosiengfiao

In the local scene, cosplay is pretty much synonymous to Alodia Gosiengfiao. A quick Google search on "cosplay" reveals just that - Alodia is often nicknamed the Cosplay Goddess or Cosplay Queen. With her beatiful face, gorgeous body, cool costumes, and a whooping 1.1 MILLION followers on Facebook, who'd want to argue? External features aside, Alodia also has a lot of awards under her belt. At the tender age of 15, she has since been winning various awards both in local and international competitions. She's currently a VJ on Animax and also endorses a lot of consumer products and services. Her rise to fame also paved the way for cosplaying to go into mainstream media.

Team Tux
Team Tux is a group cosplayers, the most famous (in my opinion) of which is Jin Joson. Combining cosplay with superb photography, Team Tux takes cosplaying to a higher standard. They make their own clothes, do their own make-up and design their own props too. If you're looking for real art, look no further than the creations of Team Tux.

Nikki Chan

Nikki Chan is one of the more unknown cosplayers on the local scene - or maybe it's just because Nikki is shadowed by cosplay behemoths mentioned above. Nevertheless, Nikki Chan can stand her ground when it comes to cosplaying. An avid player of Monster Hunter (I liked this game too), this cute and innocent-looking chick was 1st runner up for 2010's Cosplay Costume of The Year Award thanks to her Rathalos Blade Master armor.

Jerry Polonce

Jerry Polence has been in the limelight for a very long time. She's been featured in Culture Crash Comics in 2004 and was winner of Animax Robo-Dream in 2005 where she cosplayed the innocent Chii from Chobits. She also competed (and won first place) in other countries including Japan. Her most recent achievement includes her winning of the Animax Cosplay Photo Contest in 2010. Now, she travels the world to guest in international conventions. She also holds her fans dear and even sets meet-ups for them. Jerry Polence just goes to show that big dreams are possible if you strive for it.

And there you have it, my take on the best Filipino cosplayers out there. Take note that there are no numerical associations with each cosplayer which means the list is unordered. These cosplayers are chosen because of certain qualities that I think a cosplayer must have - creativity and craftsmanship, superb passion for cosplay, and an eye for detail.

What's your top cosplayers list?
